Our French Lardy Staunton is based on the original chess set made by the Lardy Chess Company in France from many years ago. There's nothing fancy about this chess set but it has a masculine handsomeness and a traditional Staunton look that serious chess players prefer for their everyday chess set. Pieces have green billiard cloth pads for a soft feel when moving and are properly weighted for stability on the chess board. The wood is hand polished to a beautiful sheen. The French Lardy is truly a classic and an exceptional chess set for the casual game at home or tournament play.

Chinese Weiqi is a very popular game in China, Japan, Korean. The folding chess board is made of soft plastic material, is a chess playing board with "18 x 18" grids when unfolded. The game is played by two players who alternately place black and white stones on the vacant intersections of a grid of 19×19 lines. Once placed on the board, stones cannot be moved elsewhere, unless they are surrounded and captured by the opponent's stones. The object of the game is to control (surround) a larger portion of the board than the opponent.

Placing stones close together helps them support each other and avoid capture. On the other hand, placing stones far apart creates influence across more of the board. Part of the strategic difficulty of the game stems from finding a balance between such conflicting interests. Players strive to serve both defensive and offensive purposes and choose between tactical urgency and strategic plans.

The Celtic Decorative Chess Set

The Celtic people were inhabitants of areas of Western Europe, particularly Ireland, Wales, Brittany and the Highlands of Scotland. They were subjected to raids by Vikings and Norsemen and our chess set is the story of a battle between the Irish King, Brian Boru, and the Viking invaders. The battle took place at Clontarf, near Dublin and was a fierce encounter.

Although the Celts managed to defeat the Viking invaders, their King, Brian Boru, was slain. This chess set features the principal characters involved in the battle and depicts Celtic designs and artifacts of the period.

Almost one thousand years old the Celtic inhabitants of Ireland rose up under their King, Brian Boru, to fight the invading and colonizing Vikings. Based on the Battle of Clontarf in 1014 AD, our chess set portrays many of the characteristics of the era with authentic and historically correct artifacts shown in splendid detail.
