In 1972, Robert James "Bobby" Fischer and Boris Spassky battled for the World Chess Championship in the most widely followed match in the history of Chess. Despite a disastrous start, where he lost the first 2 games, Bobby Fischer fought his way back and decisively defeated Spassky by a final score of 12.5 - 8.5, single-handedly ending the Russian dominance of Chess. The Chessmen that were used during the match were produced by the legendary Jaques of London.

Our French Lardy Staunton is a close replica of one of the chess sets once made by the Lardy Chess Company in France. Truly a classic and continues to be extremely popular with chess players.

The case is made from solid wood and is shaped with elegant curves for an attractive molded design. The chess board lifts off and turns over to reveal the backgammon board on the other side. Royal Guard Staunton Chess Set in Rosewood & Boxwood - 2.75" King

Our Royal Guard Staunton chess set is designed for the rigors of everyday play and especially a game of blitz. We introduced the Royal Guard in 2008 with exactly that in mind, a chess set with an attractive knight having only the simplest of features but with a new look players would enjoy. Pieces have green billiard cloth pads for a soft feel when moving and are properly weighted for stability on the chess board. The rosewood and boxwood are hand polished to a beautiful sheen. This beautiful brass and nickel chess set from Manopoulos is based on the last battle of Zeus in which he established his dominion in Olympus. Zeus is the king, Athena the queen, Aris the bishop, Centaur the knight, and the giants are the pawns. A column from an ancient Greek building is the rook. Chess pieces are
hand-cast in solid zinc and then copper plated. The white pieces are highlighted with a blue paint to imitate the natural color of oxidized copper. It looks extremely sharp! A gorgeous chess set that will look beautiful in your home or office!
